How to Get a Flex Job: Part 2

The key to successful networking is determining what you want to do. What would make you wake up in the morning and want to go to work.? It may be what you used to do or it may not be.  What are the most enjoyable accomplishments in your professional and personal life? What are your interests and values? What’s your preferred style of working?  Follow your curiosity.  What are some news items that pique your interest? This is the critical time to do some self-reflection and study the economy for emerging opportunities. You can consult some self-help and career books or enlist the assistance of a career professional.

Once you identify some areas that appeal to you, research those occupations and industries.  After you identify the types of roles or positions, industries, company size, geography you want to work in, networking becomes much more manageable. Jot down some companies in your target market (position, industry, size and geography) that have flex-time policies.  You can google for recent lists of the best companies for almost anything.  Search for flex time.  The FlexJObs Guide to the Best Companies for Flex Jobs (.www.flexjobs.com/company-guide) allows you to search by location.
